Director of church MUSIC


James Johnson is a charting six-time Stellar Award nominee. He is a singer, composer, producer and musician who has worked with top-shelf talent throughout the sacred music world. He hails from Baltimore, MD where he began playing music at the age five and regularly performed in his father’s church on both organ and drums. He is the product of the Baltimore Public Schools, graduating from the city’s prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts.


In 2001, Minister Johnson began working in the field of music production, songwriting and arranging; his clients include Alvin Slaughter, Maurette Brown-Clark, Stephen Hurd, Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Mark Gross, Troy Sneed and the Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir. In 2008, Johnson joined the Music Ministry at Cedar Street as its Minister of Music, Worship and Arts. In 2011, he and Pastor Chandler produced the album entitled “Indeed” featuring the Voices of Cedar Street. In 2016, he joined the staff of another local church; but he could not stay away from his home base, returning to Cedar Street in December 2018 as the Minister of Music.
